Food for Thought Encouragement and Enlightenment from God's Word |
|
The Psalmist of Israel, David, described
Gods word in these words: Thy word is a lamp to my feet, And a
light to my path. (Psalm 119:105) Earlier in that Psalm, he said, Thy
word have I treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against thee.
(Psalm 119:11) Gods word held a valued place to David, king of
Israel. In the New Testament, we find the same value placed upon Gods
revelation. In 2 Timothy 3:16,17, the apostle Paul writes, All
Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for
reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of
God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. The apostle Peter
said this, Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of
God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to
us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true
knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. (2
Peter 1:2,3) God in His revelation, the Bible, has given
us everything we need to know Him, to know God loves us, and to know how
much He love loves. That revelation also tells us the problem we have
that separates us from God our sin. (E.g., Isaiah 59:1,2) The
central message of the Bible is that God loves us so much, even though
we have sinned against Him, He provided the one and only means by which
we could have fellowship with God once again. That means is Jesus. Because Gods Word is so important, it is
essential that we spend time reading and studying the Bible. It can be
misused. Therefore, each of us is encouraged to Be diligent to
present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be
ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15) |
